24TH CONGRESS OF THE INTERNATIONAL SOCIALIST : THE NDC PARTY IN POWER IN GHANA UNVEILS THE PLOT AGAINST Gbagbo
During the post-election crisis in Côte d'Ivoire the International Socialist did not have the courage to defend one of its members, the FPI who faced fierce adversity . This is what reminded Prof. Kofi Awoonor, Chief of the Ghanaian délgation Ndc party during the 24th Congress Is in Cape Town (South Africa) from 30 August to 14 September 2012.
Part of this memorable and courageous action has caused a dead silence in the room. Take time to read
"Comrades, we speak this afternoon, not to mention the political or economic situation in Ghana, but we take it to the attention of our movement on the situation in neighboring countries: Côte d'Ivoire . We take it in conjunction with the conference theme: The Fight for Rights and Freedoms: Strengthening Democracy and Making News in the World. Comrades, we must remember the true version of events in Côte d'Ivoire. President Gbagbo, whose party (FPI) was a diehard members of our movement, saw his government attacked in 2002 by a rebellion sponsored by France and organized by infiltrators within the national army. This rebellion caused a de facto division of the country into two, a score which lasted almost nine more years.
What were the objectives of this rebellion? France, which had kept control of almost all aspects of the Ivorian economy after the so-called independence of this country has not accepted the modest efforts by President Gbagbo to give a little bit to the Ivorian people the exercise of control. I was personally in Côte d'Ivoire as an election observer on behalf of my party, the NDC. The elections were generally held in peace and order, when suddenly arose a dispute as to who won it ? In the dispute, ECOWAS, under the influence of obvious pro-Ouattara forces and pro-French sub-region has taken a clear position.
Gbagbo requested a recount of votes in the most hotly contested constituencies. This modest request of President Gbagbo, who is usually part of the practice and use in the just resolution of electoral disputes around the world, had been answered by tough attack, conducted and orchestrated by the French army. A civil war broke out.
The result was the victory of the party with the best army, which was supported by the international conspiracy led by France of Sarkozy. That France, by mixing the Security Council, which was still flanked by the carte blanche that the Council had given Nato has prevailed in Libya to crush Gaddafi, ECOWAS, the AU, the organizations who ought to be the last stronghold of African democracy and full self-determination on the continent. In this chaos, President Gbagbo was captured and transferred to The Hague in an expeditious manner. Comrades, our delegation is indignant that the Presidium of the International Socialist , showing impatience and without a full examination of the true nature of the facts in the Ivorian situation has decided to suspend the FPI, the first party at the forefront of the struggle in our international institution for many years.
Comrades, how do we get the truth when those who are victims of a flood of imperialist aggression are denied the right to defend themselves by the only channel that would give them a forum? Comrade Gbagbo, a man who, on several occasions, has been for long the subject of multiple imprisonments, in a neo-colonial regime since the independence of Côte d'Ivoire, is now languishing in a jail in The Hague. He seems to have no voice, either for himself or for his party, and that, even within the International Socialist , his first love. We call upon the AU and particularly its new Chairman Mrs Zuma, to give back a look on the Mbeki Report on the situation in Côte d'Ivoire.
President Mbeki was sent to the AU, which has submitted a report to all objective views on the post-election crisis in Côte d'Ivoire. Clearly, the AU, ECOWAS deeply manipulated by forces and anti-Gbagbo completely ignored the report of Comrade Mbeki. We also call the Presidium of the International Socialist , that the new French government led by comrade François Hollande and the French Socialist Party, undertake to pay immediately in an emergency, a lot of attention to the Ivorian situation. This should lead to a fresh look on the situation in socialist France, that is to repair the terrible fate imposed on Côte d'Ivoire by President Sarkozy and his allies in the Security Council. We still refer to the International Socialist , to work tirelessly for the release of Comrade Gbagbo from his prison in The Hague. Especially still, we require that many FPI comrades and Pascal Affi N'Guessan, its President, who are languishing in Ouattara's jails been released. We demand an end to arrests and all forms of torture, killing and repression in Côte d'Ivoire, and the setting up of an international commission to investigate the situation in that sister country .
Do not let the Movement of International Socialist help and support those imperialist forces against which we are fighting for the advent of freedom without compromise and true democracy, and, yielding to their machinations disguised form of humanitarian concern, and we hastening ourselves, therefore, to suspend those parties who have worked for the advent of democracy in their country. Finally, we call on the leadership of our movement to work hard to restore fully true democracy in Côte d'Ivoire, and the demolition of the neo-colonial system in this country. We make this call, as citizens of a neighboring country of Cote d'Ivoire, which until now is a place of refuge for thousands of Ivorian refugees.
Our statement this afternoon is motivated by the fact that the FPI is a sister party, not only our party the NDC, but all parties gathered here under the umbrella of the International Socialist Movement, which includes the French Socialist Party, which is now in business in European countries, the vast history is distinguished by its commitment to Liberty, Fraternity and Equality. May Justice , and true Freedom outweigh anything. Our movement, the International Socialist , is the champion of this historic work.
Thank you for your Attention "
UN WATCH IVORY COAST takes it further:
The above speech from Prof Kofi Awoonor is not taking into account the that French Socialist Party at its last General Assembly in 2010(just before the elections in Ivory Coast) unanimously decided to aline itself to the New World Order. In one word the French Socialist Party is rather the spearhead of the Noe-Colonialism and slave trade repackaged as New World Order . We have a long way to go when it comes to economical interest and moral standard and French would always defend France interest no matter his/her political view as other western(British, American, etc) would do.
